How to Run with the Bulls

1

Do I need to “reserve” a spot to run with the bulls?

This is one of the most common questions we get when people want to know about running with the bulls.

Do you need to apply or go through some formal process in order to run at 8 a.m. with the bulls?

NO!

2

Show up early

In order to run in the morning, all you need to do is show up. We advise showing up early, however, in order to get your spot. Furthermore, be sure to stay close to the Town Hall (the main gathering area) and don’t get pushed too far up the course. In 2007, too many people ended up trying to run on a couple mornings and the police just forced out the people who were up toward the end of the course.

3

Be sober

You should certainly be sober when running, and you’re not permitted to wear open toed shoes or carry anything (e.g., backpacks, cameras). You can be as gutsy as you’d like when running or you can choose to stay out front and avoid the bulls (although this is looked upon as pretty cowardly in the eyes of the locals).

Is running with the bulls safe?

You can read more on the encierro on our other pages. We do not officially condone running as it can be dangerous. Although very few get hurt, when they do it’s usually very badly. However, we realize that many of you will run and we’re happy to pass along tips as many of the Pamplona Tours staff have run and can give you the lowdown firsthand!
